I am an information security professional with over 20 years of experience. Part of working for critical infrastructure providers, military and the police inside security cleared projects led me to the path of becoming an expert on civilian-drones governance. For more than a year I worked on the governance aspects (risk management ) of civilian-drones. I worked on three specific uses cases.

• A critical infrastructure provider wanted to know about relevant risks to their infrastructure
• A health care provider (hospital) was planning on using drones for the transport of blood samples and wanted to know about risks outside just safety (compliance/ regulatory), i.e. patient data protection act
• The third one wanted to know about threats to public safety

These use cases led to the development of a comprehensive risk management methodology including a threat catalogue with more than 140 drone-related risks. The result of all this knowledge and testing was the foundation of the highly focused startup DroneGuard. Swisscom, the largest Switzerland Telecommunication provider, supported the startup with their startup program Kickbox. The products have been taken over from DroneGuard and integrated with Swisscom’s broadcast services into their portfolio. The consulting part lives on with DroneGuard as a small highly specialised niche startup.
